Calistoga Wine Saloon
"Let's go to Beverly's." That's what you say after just one visit to Beverly's for a drink. Her charm is overwhelming and everyone is greeted like an old acquaintance who has dropped by again. "How are you? What would you like to drink tonight?" - The beginning of a great evening.
In Eppendorf, not far from the Kellinghusenstraße underground station, lies Beverly's little Wine Saloon. She wanted a place modelled on the original bars: get in quick, have a drink, tell a story about life - and move on. A dynamic oasis of laughter and extremely exclusive, fine wines. Oh, and the nasty messes of, among other things, Serrano ham, delicious bread, olive oil with salt crumbled over it, which Beverly serves with a grin.
Beverly wants to offer her guests wines that they don't know yet. From producers with whom Beverly has a personal relationship and wines of which she is particularly proud: from South Africa, e.g. Samantha O'Keefe from Lismore Estate Vineyards, Eben Sadie with The Sadie Family Wines or the Mullineux family from Swartland already mentioned here. Then there is Susana Esteban from Portugal or the Tschida Winery from Illmitz, Austria. Of course there are also German wines, and here again a rarity, -the only winery, - Schmitt from Rheinhessen, which presses the Albariño grape. (Albariño, Portugal, -you know.)
Beverly, what kind of wine do I drink with a good crime novel?
B: It should also be exciting. Red wine. It's best to start with "Chapter 1" and then "DomKapitel" at the end. Both by Tschida, Illmitz.
Tonight I'm cooking for friends. Which wine can I enjoy alone in the kitchen?
B: Well, you have to come in first, right? You'll drink something fine with it. Scheurebe from the Paul Weltner vineyard, Franconia. You have to come in slowly.
And slowly but surely, you too should drop by Beverly's, be surprised by her range and her charm.
Bottled wines from 8 to 98 euros. Changing open wines on offer, always with a personal recommendation. Always a homemade soup (Beverly's speciality), and little "piggies" to snack on.
