Knipser Spätburgunder "Kalkmergel"
Knipser. A name. You know it. Or is it? I haven't drunk any wine from the Palatinate winery yet, and I can't claim any further knowledge of the wines of the - (in the Palatinate, the Knipser originally come from South Tyrol) family business founded around 1615. But I must change that:
Given to me by my friend Alex due to my growing passion for Pinot Noir, I drink this wine unconventionally on a Tuesday evening with my asparagus and chicken dish, - and am once again blown away by the taste and the fullness that is revealed to me as soon as I open the bottle.
Hey, eight years of rest and such a great freshness. Discreet notes of red cherries, ripe raspberries and light spiciness on my nose. A fine acidity with light tannins spreads pleasantly in the mouth and I taste red cherries again and very fine strawberries? Almost sweetish, I try to convince myself, and discover some wood and that spiciness again - cloves? Peppered meat?
Great drinking fun - the bottle is empty and I'm happy. Alex: I need a refill!
