Mullineux Kloof Street "Bush Vines"
Introducing: Syrah. 100% and not even from the northern Rhône, but from various granite, iron and slate soils about 50km north of Cape Town.and it tastes good! I am even blown away. And it is by no means "one of those violently marbled contemporaries" like Syrah or Shiraz often comes along in the southern hemisphere. No, and hence the comparison with the Rhone. It presents itself as fine, fruity and elegant. A spicy freshness and light tannins (furry, you remember) make the bottle empty in no time.
By the way, "bush vines" refers to the cultivation of the vines in bush form. This is also a widespread method in the Rhône. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented spontaneously and aged in used wooden barrels. And apart from minimal sulphurisation, nothing is added to or taken from the wine that is not already naturally present. The winery was even named "Winery of the Year" in South Africa's Wine Bible in 2014. Several reasons to try this and other wines from the young winemaking couple right away!
